After some nail-biting finishes, the grand finale of the National T20 Cup proved to be a one-sided contest as Northern bowlers were a little too smart for Balochistan’s batting line-up.
Imam-ul-Haq, who was captaining Balochistan, opted to field first in a shocking decision after winning the toss. Chasing even a meager total can be a tough ask in knockout games and Balochistan were given a target of 168 after Umar Amin’s fifty and a smart sixth-wicket stand between all-rounders Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz.
In the second innings, Sohail Tanvir made sure that the chase didn’t get off to a flying start, removing both Imam-ul-Haq and Bismillah Khan in quick succession. Awais Zia, who ended up being the best batsman of the tournament with 276 runs, couldn’t get his team over the line one last time as he fell after scoring just 28. Imran Farhat top-scored with 32, however, no batsman managed to get going as Balochistan were bowled out for 115.
Northern bowlers were particularly impressive as Sohail Tanvir bagged 3, taking his overall tally to 14 – the highest in the tournament – Shadab Khan and Mohammad Nawaz picked two each while Mohammad Amir and Imad Wasim got one wicket each. The only wicket-less bowler was Haris Rauf, who was the man of the match in the semi-final.
The awards at the end of the tournament were as follows:
- Man of the Final – Umar Amin 60 (38)
- Man of the tournament – Muhammad Rizwan 215 runs & 6 dismissals
- Best Batsman – Awais Zia 276 runs at 39.42
- Best Bowler – Sohail Tanvir – 14 wickets at 16.07
- Best Wicket-Keeper – Rohail Nazir 7 dismissals
