NITB to Convert Govt Departments Into E-Offices

The National Information Technology Board (NITB) has envisioned to transform all federal government offices into e-offices before June next year.

The plan was disclosed during the meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information Technology. MNA Ali Khan Jadoon chaired the meeting.

NITB officials briefed the meeting that some federal government offices have already been changed into e-offices and the board is also developing an integrated data system. The system will act as a central communication platform for all government offices.

The need for an indigenous communication platform is driven by recent incidents of spyware attacks on WhatsApp. Since most of the intra-government communication is done using WhatsApp, the possibility of sensitive documents ending up with hackers increases manifold.

Regarding the success of the Kamyab Jawan Program, NITB officials said that they have received more than 1 million online applications since the launch of the program. Applications received under the PM Youth Loan Programme will be evaluated along with the applications of the Kamyab Jawan Program. In case a bank rejects an application, it will also give a valid reason to the candidate explaining the rejection.

About the proliferation of fake news on social media platforms, NITB officials said that the government has approached Twitter and Facebook. Several meetings have already been held with the representatives of these companies to devise standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb fake news.

NITB will also launch a new program called ‘Boot Camp’. Under the program, technology experts from Silicon Valley will provide training to employees of the IT Ministry.
