A domestic flight of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) heading to Karachi suffered severe damage after being hit by a bird before landing. This is the first bird hit incident of 2020 in Pakistan.
PIA’s flight PK-311 coming from Quetta suffered a bird strike when it was landing at the Jinnah International Airport on Monday.
The pilot, however, managed to land the plane successfully without any further damage, and all the passengers remained unhurt.
The aircraft has been grounded as its right-wing is severely damaged. Currently, a team of PIA engineers is repairing the plane.
Nowadays, bird strikes are a regular occurrence in airports across the country. In 2019, over 36 PIA planes were hit by birds, causing losses in millions of rupees to the national airline. Some of the aircraft were heavily damaged and were grounded for a longer period.
