Private Schools Announce to Break Sindh Govt’s Lockdown

Disregarding the government’s lockdown order in Sindh, the Private Schools Association has announced to open schools from tomorrow onwards.

The Sindh government was first to close schools for two weeks across the province amid an outbreak of coronavirus. The break was later extended until May 31, and schools were asked to treat it as summer vacations. It was a safety measure from the government to keep students safe from the deadly virus.

However, the association is ready to defy the government’s order and put the health of hundreds of thousands of students at risk.

In a statement today, the chairman of the association claimed that due to the prolonged closure of schools, they are unable to pay salaries of its staff. He claimed that over 16,000 school employees had not received salaries since the lockdown began.

While some of the teachers received their March salaries, many school managements don’t have funds to pay salaries for April onwards.

The chairman also disregarded the government’s directive to collect tuition fees every month instead of demanding a lump sum amount. He said that the fees will be collected as in the past.

The Directorate of Private Schools of Sindh had issued a notification on March 30, asking privately managed schools to collect the fee on a monthly basis. The government also warned schools against terminating any of its staff amid the current lockdown.
