Universities Ordered to Receive Fee in Installments

Governor and Chancellor Punjab Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar has officially directed Vice-Chancellors (VCs) of all public and private universities to receive fees from students in installments.

Governor Sarwar has said that COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown has economically crippled the middle and poor segments of the society and they are unable to pay for the academic expenses of their children amid the prevailing financial crunch.

Therefore, VCs are urged to facilitate all students and not to take any decision that can have a negative impact on their future.

Yesterday, VC Punjab University (PU), Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar, announced to waive off all fees except for the tuition fee until the government allows the resumption of classes from the campus.

In a twitter post, Dr. Niaz wrote:

PU will not charge any medical fee, transport fee, library fee, sports charges, and hostel charges, etc. except tuition fee to its students during the period of online classes

Following the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent closure of universities, fee waiver has been the primary demand of students along with promotion to the next semester without examinations and suspension of online classes.
