150 PIA Pilots Are Being Grounded Due to Fake Licences

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has decided to ground 150 of its pilots with dubious licenses. Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan revealed this in the National Assembly.

During the assembly session, Khan said that a large number of PIA pilots – about 40 percent – possessed suspicious licenses. PIA spokesperson, Abdullah Hafeez, disclosed that around 150 of the pilots had fake or suspicious licenses and they will be grounded.

He said that the management has written a letter to Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) requesting a list of other licenses found to be dubious – all of them will be grounded for an indefinite period, he said.

Those found at fault will be terminated from service after following a due process.

The matter came to light when the minister was briefing the Lower House on the preliminary report of PK-8303 crash. The report disclosed that the Karachi plane crash was caused by human error and held the captain of the plane responsible for it.

It maintained that the pilot ignored multiple warnings of the Air Traffic Controller (ATC) and risked the lives of a hundred people on board.

According to the report, the plane was at a high altitude before its approach point, and the ATC had warned the pilot about it. The aircraft was at 3,500 feet at four nautical miles that is considered high from the approach profile, it added.
