University of Karachi & a Chinese University Launch A Joint Bachelor Program

University of Karachi (KU), Sichuan Normal University (SNU), China, and Center of Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC), China signed a memorandum of understanding to start a joint split bachelor program of Chinese International Education.

The acting vice-chancellor of KU, Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute University of Karachi (CIUK), Professor Zhang Xiaoping of SNU and Chief executive CLEC Professor Dr Ma Jianfei signed the memorandum at KU.

According to the memorandum, students will have to study at CIUK for the first two years, then they will become eligible to complete the remaining two years at SNU. Dr Iraqi said that CIUK is playing a very important part in promoting Chinese language and culture and with the split-degree program the focus will be solely on students’ development.

Dr Iraqi said “We initiated the project in November last year and made plans and progress to further strengthen the ties between the two universities. We are hopeful that our students and faculty will get maximum benefits from the program.”

He further added that the students and faculty exchange program between the universities were also in-line and KU students would also get scholarships in various disciplines to complete their studies. He said that international linkage was essential for the varsities as it helped in facilitating their faculties and students.

Meanwhile, Professor Xiaoping informed that the SNU, during its recently held board meeting, has approved the joint split-degree program. “The University of Karachi, SNU and CLEC, under the ministry of education, have agreed to launch the program and scholarship will also be made available for the KU students.”

He said that split-degree program will help in the promotion of educational exchange between the two universities and CIUK was dedicated to facilitating Chinese learning and the relationship between China and Pakistan.

The Pakistani Director CIUK, Professor Dr Nasiruddin Khan expressed that this program would be helpful in promoting cooperation between the two universities whereas the KU Syndicate member Sahibzada Moazzam Qureshi said that this program would give more opportunities to KU students and they should not miss this chance.
