Three Pakistani startups have won the Shell LiveWIRE Top 10 Innovators Awards in three categories. The startups have done the country proud and have paved a new path to inspire local entrepreneurs in the prestigious competition that judges and rewards businesses from all over the world on the basis of innovation.

Shell LiveWIRE’s panel of judges awarded $20,000 to AquaAgro, a Pakistani startup that models crop yield and helps farmers grow crops efficiently. This startup helps preserve more than 50 percent of the water used in traditional farming and won the first prize in the Environment & Circular Economy category.
Its CEO, Ramla Kaleem Shah, informed the judges about Pakistan’s recurring need for freshwater resources. She stated the agricultural sector uses 70 percent of the country’s water resources while almost 50 percent of it is wasted.
Striving to bring innovative and technological changes to Pakistan’s agricultural sector, Shah is confident that AquaAgro will provide optimum water usability, increase crop yield, and provide better profit margins for farmers.
Aqua Agro is one of the few startups in Pakistan that is led by a woman.

According to its CEO and founder, Muhammad Nabeel, the startup aims to help local schools incorporate robotic engineering into their curricula.
“Getting our idea and startup recognized at the global level has motivated us to do more. COVID-19 has hit us all, but some of us have been able to make the most of this opportunity and develop something to help people in this pandemic,” he said.

Enent
Enent won the runner-up prize at the competition, securing $10,000 in prize money. This startup is a clean-tech electronics company that focuses on designing innovative products that will help Pakistan reduce energy wastage.
It claims to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 18,000 tons every year while making a positive impact on grid efficiency and saving $0.5 million in electricity bills per annum.
Tech entrepreneur and the former director of the National Incubation Sector, Shahjahan Chaudhry, lauded Pakistan’s efforts in competing against global growth and the emerging trends in technology. She added that investments in technology will make Pakistan prosperous.
