Pakistan’s first-ever Red Data List of Wildlife species is being prepared by the Ministry of Climate Change. The list will represent existing wildlife species facing extinction or threats to their lives in various parts of the country.
According to reports, the Ministry of Climate Change took the initiative aimed at the protection and conservation of wild animals spread across Pakistan.

The Red Data List will comprise data collection based on globally recognized criteria that would help evaluate the extinction risks of thousands of species and subspecies.
50 wildlife scientists and biodiversity experts, researchers, surveyors, and representatives of IUCN-Pakistan, WWF-P, Zoological Survey of Pakistan, and Wildlife Conservation Society Pakistan, have explored the country and prepared relevant data for the list.
Sources close to the Ministry of Climate Change quoted a senior official, who said that the Red Data List would be the most comprehensive record of wildlife plants, animals, and other organisms crucial for maintaining the global ecosystem. He stated,
The Red List will be a critical indicator of the health of the country’s biodiversity, which is beset with various risks to its sustainability. It will also provide information about the range, population size, habitat, and ecology that would greatly help formulate sustained policies to protect and preserve wildlife animals.
