New Aviation Policy Will Boost Economy: CAA Director General

The National Aviation Policy (NAP) is expected to offer a broader spectrum for doing business by enhancing connectivity at the domestic level and promoting tourism through the proper channels.

This view was expressed by the Director-General of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Khaqan Murtaza, while visiting the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

In a statement, Khaqan Murtaza revealed that the authority is “open to all types of suggestions and criticisms,” which would help improve all services being offered under the CAA umbrella.

Irfan Sabir, who works as an Air Transport & Economic Regulation Director for the authority, complimented Murtaza’s sentiments. While giving a presentation on “Contribution of Aviation in Promotion of Global, Regional and Domestic Tourism,” Sabir explained that under the updated National Aviation Policy, paid-up capital and security deposits have almost been halved, and land lease rates and rents have been accounted for to reduce the cost of doing business.

Besides business,  tourism promotion and regional integration licenses have also been introduced under the NAP guidelines. The minimum paid-up capital required is Rs. 10 million, including security deposits of Rs. 5 million.

Furthermore, the CAA has also invited the local business community to help develop aircraft operations, helipads, hotels, lounges, storage warehouses, and tourism-related services. This, said Sabir, would “help promote tourism, in addition to presenting the true soft image of Pakistan.”
