Former England Great Questions ECB’s Decision to Cancel Pakistan Tour

Famed England captain, David Gower, has slammed the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for its decision to call off the Pakistan tour without providing a warranted explanation.

Discussing the issue on Sky News, Gower said that England’s decision to withdraw from the series makes no sense.

In a statement, Gower explained,

I really can’t see the logic because it was going to be four or five days for the men in Pakistan, so hardly onerous, hardly a big bubble. I know they have got lots coming up this winter. I know there is a World T20 coming up, and it was sighted that it wasn’t perfect preparation to that. Well, it’s all very insubstantial.

He also mentioned Pakistan’s recent tour of England, where the home side didn’t have much of a problem naming players in the team sheet. Gower pointed out that it wasn’t difficult to name a 14-man squad for a very short Pakistan tour. “We put out a brand new squad in just two days’ time, which actually happened to beat Pakistan,” he added.

David Gower has joined many other international cricket greats and journalists who have openly called out the ECB’s decision to pull out of the Pakistan tour.

On the home side, the newly appointed Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Ramiz Raja, stated that the team feels “used and then binned” by ECB’s withdrawal. Admonishing the situation, Raja remarked that England “had a chance to repay” and “side with a cricketing nation that has undergone challenges others cannot even begin to contemplate. Instead, citing a mealy-mouthed statement, they did the wrong thing.”
