Applicants must prove English proficiency through IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge certificates with the required minimum scores. Most nationalities are eligible, except Russian citizens due to Flemish government policy.

Master Mind Scholarship Application Process

The 2026‑2027 edition opens on 15 October 2025 and closes on 15 January 2026 (23:59 CET). Applicants must submit a complete admission file for a qualifying Master’s program and the KU Leuven Scholarships & Master Mind Candidacy Form before the deadline. KU Leuven nominates candidates, and the Flemish government makes the final selection at the national level.

Opportunities for Scholars

Master Mind is highly competitive. Applicants are also automatically considered for other KU Leuven scholarships, such as the ASEAN or Africa scholarships, through the same application process. Recipients gain access to world-class education, research opportunities, and a multicultural academic environment in Flanders.

Who can apply?

International students (all nationalities except Russian citizens).
Applicants must apply for a full‑time Master’s program at KU Leuven that is eligible for scholarships (not distance learning, preparatory or bridging programs).
Applicants should have excellent academic performance and potential (high GPA) and a degree from outside Flanders.

How do I apply?

Submit your complete application for an eligible Master’s programme to KU Leuven by 15 January 2026.
Upload the KU Leuven Scholarships & Master Mind Candidacy Form in the application under “Annexe”.
Register your scholarship candidacy in the online registration tool before the same deadline.
If nominated by KU Leuven, you’ll be asked to submit a 1‑minute motivational video for the next selection round.

How are candidates selected?

First nominees are selected by KU Leuven’s programs.
Up to 20 preselected students go forward to the Flemish government selection.
Final results are usually announced end of May or early June.
Selection criteria include: academic performance, motivation, awards/achievements, experience, leadership, commitment.

Are there any restrictions?

You cannot hold the Master Mind Scholarship together with other Flemish government scholarships or an Erasmus Mundus scholarship.
You must not already be enrolled at a Flemish higher education institution (except in a preparatory program starting in autumn).
