Mälardalen University (Swedish: Mälardalens universitet), also known as MDU, is a public university located in Västerås and Eskilstuna, Sweden. The university educates around 18,000 students. It employs approximately 1,000 staff members. This group includes 91 professors, 504 teachers, and 244 doctoral students. Mälardalen University holds the distinction of being the world’s first environmentally certified school under an international standard.

MDU focuses its research and academic activities on six key areas of specialization. These include educational sciences and mathematics, embedded systems, future energy, health and welfare, industrial economics and management, and innovation and product realization.
