The University of Waterloo offers Engineering Scholarships for International Students entering first-year undergraduate engineering programs. These awards help reduce international tuition costs and are automatically granted upon admission, requiring no separate application.
Background and Purpose
The University of Waterloo created these scholarships to attract top international engineering talent. By providing financial support, the university encourages students to pursue challenging engineering programs while easing the burden of high tuition fees. Additionally, the awards foster academic excellence and promote a diverse global student community within the Faculty of Engineering.
Engineering Scholarships Benefits
The scholarships cover two categories:
-
Environmental and Geological Engineering International Scholarships – Recipients in these programs receive up to $20,000 CAD total, paid as $5,000 per term over four academic terms ($10,000 per academic year). Students must maintain an 80% cumulative average and full-time enrollment to receive payments in later terms.
-
Other Engineering Programs – Students admitted to Architectural, Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Management, Nanotechnology, or Systems Design Engineering programs receive $10,000 CAD total ($5,000 per term in the first year).
The awards are applied directly to the student’s tuition account.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for these scholarships, applicants must be full-time international undergraduate students studying in Canada on a valid study permit and paying international tuition fees. Students automatically become eligible by accepting their admission offer by the stated deadline. The university does not require a separate scholarship application or a minimum admission average. Recipients must remain enrolled full-time throughout their studies, and where applicable, maintain the required academic standards to continue receiving the scholarship funds
Engineering Scholarships Application Process
The university automatically considers eligible students when they accept their admission offer. There is no separate application process, and successful candidates have the award applied directly to their student account for tuition fees.
Opportunities for Scholars
Recipients benefit from significant financial support that reduces the cost of studying at one of Canada’s top engineering schools. Furthermore, they gain access to world-class faculty, advanced research facilities, and a vibrant international student community. These scholarships allow students to focus on academic excellence, professional development, and long-term career success in engineering.
