The President’s Graduate Fellowship (PGF) is one of the National University of Singapore‘s most prestigious doctoral scholarships. The University awards the fellowship to exceptional PhD applicants who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, excellent research potential, and the ability to contribute significantly to their chosen field of study. Each semester, NUS selects only a limited number of outstanding full-time PhD students for this highly competitive fellowship. Consequently, the program recognizes and supports some of the University’s most promising doctoral researchers.

Background and Purpose

The fellowship aims to attract talented researchers from around the world and strengthen research excellence at NUS. Therefore, it encourages outstanding graduates to pursue advanced doctoral studies in a world-class research environment. Fellows conduct innovative research under the guidance of internationally recognized faculty members and contribute to the advancement of knowledge across various academic disciplines. In addition, the program supports the University’s mission to develop future academic leaders, researchers, and innovators who can address complex global challenges through high-quality research.

President’s Graduate Fellowship Benefits

The fellowship provides comprehensive financial support throughout the doctoral program. As a result, recipients can devote their full attention to research and academic development without financial pressure. The fellowship covers full tuition fees and provides a generous monthly stipend of up to SGD 4,800. Furthermore, fellows receive a one-time research allowance to support approved research-related expenses during their candidature. The fellowship is awarded for one year and may be renewed annually based on satisfactory academic and research progress for up to four years.

President’s Graduate Fellowship Application Process

Applicants must first apply for admission to a full-time PhD program at NUS. Afterwards, the relevant faculty, school, or department reviews eligible candidates and nominates exceptional applicants for the fellowship. The University then evaluates the nominations and selects recipients based on academic excellence, research potential, and overall merit.
