The Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship was established by the University of Waikato in 2015. The university previously named it the University of Waikato International Excellence Scholarship. The scholarship promotes educational opportunities and strengthens internationalization. It supports talented international applicants who enroll as new students in undergraduate or postgraduate programs.

The university awards the scholarship as a tuition fee credit paid in New Zealand dollars. It offers funding of up to $15,000 for undergraduate study and up to $10,000 for postgraduate study. The selection committee awards the scholarship to applicants who demonstrate strong academic achievement. Successful applicants may also serve as global ambassadors for the University of Waikato.
