Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship

The award is a tuition-fee credit valued up to NZD $15,000 for undergraduate study and up to NZD $10,000 for postgraduate study. It may vary depending on the number of scholarships.

Applications are submitted online via the MyWaikato portal after receiving an offer of admission. Decisions are made monthly, but applications must be received before trimester-specific cut-off dates (e.g., 30 Apr for B trimester, 31 Aug for C, and 31 Oct for H/X trimesters).

To qualify, you must:
Be a new international student to the University of Waikato (not currently enrolled).
Have a conditional or unconditional offer for a full-time program.
Hold academic results equivalent to minimum B+ GPA in your entry qualification.

Not be eligible for other country/region-specific Waikato scholarships.

If successful, you must accept the scholarship offer within 14 days and enroll full-time in New Zealand within 12 months of your offer of place. The scholarship applies directly to your tuition fees.

No, this scholarship cannot be held alongside other Waikato-funded tuition fee awards or certain external scholarships like Education New Zealand/Manaaki.

Yes, you cannot apply if you are:
Already enrolled at Waikato;
Enrolling in limited-place or certain teaching programmes (e.g., Master of Teaching & Learning);

Paying fees or applying for a visa already;
Coming via a sponsoring body, guaranteed credit arrangement, study abroad, or exchange agreement.
