The Glasgow Excellence Award is a merit-based scholarship offered by the University of Glasgow. It supports UK-based students enrolling in full-time postgraduate taught master’s programs. The university recognizes outstanding academic achievement and provides a tuition fee reduction to make postgraduate study more affordable.

Background and Purpose

The University of Glasgow created this scholarship to reward students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance, equivalent to UK First Class Honors. The award aims to reduce financial barriers for high-achieving Home or Rest of the UK (RUK) students. By offering this support, the university encourages students to pursue advanced studies at one of Scotland’s leading institutions. Each year, the university offers 40 awards to deserving students.

Glasgow Excellence Award Benefits

Recipients receive a £5,000 tuition fee reduction, which the university applies directly to the total cost of their master’s program. This financial support helps students focus on their academic and professional development without the burden of full tuition costs. The award does not cover living expenses, travel, or other costs outside of tuition fees.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must hold an offer of admission to a postgraduate taught master’s program at the University of Glasgow. They must demonstrate academic excellence equivalent to First Class Honors and qualify as Home or RUK for tuition purposes. The scholarship cannot be combined with other Glasgow scholarships or fee reductions, except for the alumni discount.

Glasgow Excellence Award Application Process

Students must submit a separate scholarship application after applying for their chosen master’s program. The university sets the deadline for the 2026 entry cycle at 23:59 (UK time) on 12 July 2026. Applicants need their student ID and application number, provided after submitting their program application, to complete the scholarship form.

Opportunities for Scholars

Recipients gain financial support that makes postgraduate study more accessible. They engage fully with Glasgow’s academic environment, develop advanced research and learning skills, and build a strong foundation for future career and academic opportunities. The award recognizes excellence and encourages continued achievement.
