The KMU International Student Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship offered by Kaohsiung Medical University (KMU) in Taiwan to outstanding international students pursuing undergraduate, master’s, and PhD degree programs. The scholarship aims to attract academically talented students from around the world by reducing the financial cost of studying at KMU. Moreover, the program promotes academic excellence, international collaboration, and cultural exchange while supporting students throughout their studies.

Background and Purpose

The scholarship aims to strengthen KMU’s international academic community by attracting high-achieving students with strong academic potential. Therefore, the University provides financial support to outstanding international applicants who wish to pursue higher education in medicine, health sciences, biomedical sciences, pharmacy, public health, and other academic disciplines offered by KMU. In addition, the program encourages academic excellence, research development, and cross-cultural learning while preparing graduates to contribute to global healthcare, biomedical research, and scientific innovation.

KMU International Student Scholarship Benefits

The scholarship offers four award categories: Type A, Type B, Type C, and Type D, with different levels of financial support based on the student’s degree level and academic performance. As a result, recipients receive financial assistance that helps reduce the cost of their education. Depending on the award category, the scholarship may include tuition fee waivers, accommodation support, and monthly stipends. Undergraduate students may receive Type C or Type D awards, master’s students may receive Type B or Type C awards, and PhD students may receive Type A, Type B, or Type C awards. The scholarship is awarded for one academic year and may be renewed annually based on satisfactory academic performance.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must apply as prospective degree-seeking international students through KMU’s international student admission channel. They should demonstrate excellent academic achievement and satisfy the University’s admission requirements. In addition, recipients may receive only one KMU scholarship and cannot hold another Taiwanese government scholarship at the same time. The University awards scholarships based on academic merit after evaluation by the International Academic Committee and final approval by the KMU President.

KMU International Student Scholarship Application Process

Applicants must submit their scholarship application together with their online admission application because KMU does not require a separate scholarship application. Afterwards, the International Academic Committee evaluates eligible candidates based on their academic achievements and supporting documents. The University then makes the final scholarship decision after receiving approval from the KMU President. Admission to KMU does not automatically guarantee a scholarship.

Opportunities for Scholars

The scholarship enables students to pursue high-quality education at one of Taiwan’s leading medical universities while receiving valuable financial support. Moreover, scholars study in an international learning environment, collaborate with experienced faculty members, and access modern academic and research facilities. Consequently, graduates strengthen their professional knowledge and research skills while preparing for successful careers in healthcare, biomedical research, academia, public health, and other science-related professions.
