The Optiver Foundation Scholarship at the University of Oxford is a new postgraduate funding program designed to support women in STEM. The program focuses on increasing participation of talented women from low and middle-income countries in master’s-level science, technology, engineering, and mathematics programs. Funded by the Optiver Foundation, the scholarship will support up to 30 students over five years, with cohorts starting from October 2025 onwards.

Background and Purpose

The University of Oxford established this scholarship in partnership with the Optiver Foundation to reduce financial barriers in STEM education. Many women face socio-economic challenges that limit access to advanced study, especially at top universities. This program directly addresses those barriers. It supports women who are academically excellent and come from underrepresented socio-economic backgrounds. Through this initiative, Oxford strengthens diversity and inclusion within STEM disciplines.

In addition, scholars receive tailored induction activities that help them transition smoothly into university life. They also benefit from dedicated mentoring and ongoing academic support. These elements ensure students feel confident, supported, and well-integrated into the Oxford academic community.
