The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) serves as China’s national agricultural scientific research organization. The government established CAAS in 1957 in Beijing to strengthen agricultural research and innovation across the country.
CAAS oversees a network of 45 research institutes. It directly manages 36 affiliated institutes and co-hosts nine institutes in collaboration with local governments or universities. The academy employs more than 5,000 researchers, scientists, and administrative staff.
The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences conducts research across key areas of agricultural science, including crop breeding, biotechnology, animal science, agricultural resources, and food safety. The academy supports national agricultural development by advancing scientific innovation and promoting sustainable farming practices. It also plays a vital role in training researchers and transferring research outcomes to improve agricultural productivity and food security in China.
