The Karolinska Institute (KI), also known in English as the (Royal) Caroline Institute, is a research-led medical school in Solna, within the Stockholm urban area of Sweden. It ranks among the world’s foremost medical research institutes. The institute was founded in 1810 on the island of Kungsholmen, on the west side of Stockholm. Decades later, it moved its main campus to Solna, just outside Stockholm. More recently, KI established a second campus in Flemingsberg, Huddinge, south of Stockholm. Times Higher Education ranks the Karolinska Institute at #53 globally.
