Kochi University of Technology (KUT) was established in April 1997 in Kochi, Japan, as a private university. In 2009, it transitioned into a public university, becoming the first institution in Japan to make this transformation. KUT actively promotes international exchange and global engagement. In 2013, the university opened the International House on the Kami Campus to provide a comfortable and supportive living environment for international students. This facility also enhances cross-cultural interaction and global awareness among KUT students.

The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Engineering, as well as in Economics and Management. The QS World University Rankings 2026 have placed the Kochi University of Technology between #1301-1400.
