The University of Bradford is a public research university located in the city of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It is a plate-glass university and received its royal charter in 1966. This made it the 40th university to be established in Britain. The university traces its origins back to 1832, when the Mechanics Institute was founded in the industrial town of West Yorkshire.

The university enrolls a diverse student population. It has 7,923 undergraduate students and 3,742 postgraduate students. In 1973, the university became the first in Britain to establish a Department of Peace Studies. Today, this department stands as the world’s largest university center dedicated to the study of peace and conflict. The QS World University Rankings have placed the university at #511.
