Griffith University is a public research university in South East Queensland on Australia’s east coast. The university was founded in 1971. It officially opened in 1975. The University operates five campuses. These campuses are located at the Gold Coast, Nathan, Logan, South Bank, and Mount Gravatt. The university will open a sixth campus in 2027. This new campus will be located in the Treasury Building in the Brisbane Central Business District.

The university takes its name from Sir Samuel Walker Griffith. He served twice as Premier of Queensland. He also became the first Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. Sir Samuel Griffith played a key role in the Federation of Australia. He also served as the principal author of the Australian Constitution.

The University offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and research programs. It delivers these programs across a wide range of disciplines. These include business, law, science, health, education, engineering, and the arts. The QS World University Rankings 2026 place Griffith University at #268 worldwide.
