The UM Social Justice Scholarship <\/a>supports a talented student from outside the EU\/European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland, and Surinam who has been admitted to the Master\u2019s program in Globalisation and Law at Maastricht University<\/a> (UM). It recognises proven commitment to human rights and the rule of law and fully funds study and living costs for the duration of the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the UM Social Justice Scholarship<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This award reflects UM\u2019s values of diversity, inclusivity, social justice, and global engagement. The scholarship is highly competitive and intended for applicants who show strong academic results and demonstrable efforts to promote the rule of law or human rights. Applicants must apply for the Globalisation and Law master\u2019s program and must submit a separate scholarship application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Eligibility Criteria<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      You must meet all of the following to be considered:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      • Hold non\u2011EU\/EEA, non\u2011Swiss, and non\u2011Surinam nationality and meet Dutch visa\/permit requirements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Have applied for (and ideally have an offer for) the full\u2011time Master\u2019s in Globalisation and Law at UM for 2026\u201327.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Demonstrate significant contributions toward advancing the rule of law and\/or human rights (through intra\u2011 or extracurricular initiatives).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Have excellent academic results, typically a GPA of 7.5\/10 or higher (or equivalent).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Be no older than 35 years on 1\u202fSeptember\u202f2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      • Have not already obtained a Master\u2019s degree (preference given to first\u2011time master\u2019s candidates).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

        • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV) with academic and extracurricular achievements.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Letter of motivation (using the UM template) focused on your human rights or rule of law contributions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Proof of academic excellence, including a transcript showing GPA and a grade\u2011scale explanation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Personal statement of financial need.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Reference letter (dated no earlier than February\u202f2025) from a professor or employer supporting your human rights engagement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
        • Referee contact details for verification.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

          Application Process & Timeline<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

          • Apply for the Master\u2019s in Globalisation and Law via UM\u2019s Studielink; receive your UM student ID.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Log in with your UM account and complete the scholarship application form.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Upload all required documents before 1 February 2026.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • UM checks for completeness and forwards applications to the Law faculty for ranking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          • Shortlisted candidates are invited to an online interview with an action plan presentation about strengthening human rights or the rule of law.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
