Circumstances have forced mankind to resort to innovative measures to prevent contracting the novel coronavirus. As of April 3<sup>rd<\/sup>, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now recommends all citizens voluntarily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">wear a cloth face mask<\/a> for essential trips out of the house to the grocery store, doctor, or other public places where the 6-foot social distancing rules may be difficult to maintain. In short, most places.<\/p>\n<p>Wearing a cloth mask might help protect people around you, if you happen to be infected with Covid-19 but do not have symptoms yet. (These are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/covid-19-symptoms-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Covid-19&#8217;s typical symptoms<\/a>.) Health care professionals are already facing a devastating shortage in supplies, and we should not use protective masks that ill patients and health care workers may need.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do <em>not<\/em> put a face mask on kids under 2 years old<\/strong>\u2014or anyone who has difficulty breathing or might be unable to remove the mask themselves.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do <em>not<\/em> remove a mask by its mouth area<\/strong>. Grab it by the straps. Wash your hands after touching it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do <em>not<\/em> just wear a standard bandana or scarf<\/strong>. They should be routinely washed depending on the frequency of use.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does one safely sterilize\/clean a cloth face covering?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A washing machine should suffice in properly washing a face covering.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How does one safely remove a used cloth face covering?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Individuals should be careful not to touch their eyes, nose, and mouth when removing their face covering and wash hands immediately after removing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Procedure | How To Make Cloth Masks<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h2><strong>Mechanical \u2013 Manual setup instruction<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Materials required for making a cloth mask (<strong>MECHANICAL<\/strong>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two 10\u201dx6\u201d rectangles of cotton fabric<\/li>\n<li>Two 6\u201d pieces of elastic (or rubber bands, string, cloth strips, or hair ties)<\/li>\n<li>Needle and thread (or bobby pin)<\/li>\n<li>Scissors<\/li>\n<li>Sewing machine<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Method<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut out two 10-by-6-inch rectangles of cotton fabric. Use tightly woven cotton, such as quilting fabric or cotton sheets. T-shirt fabric will work in a pinch.
