After all, roughly 60 percent of the human body is made up of water. Staying hydrated in Ramzan, especially when you are fasting, can be challenging.

You can survive without food for weeks but without water, we can die in a matter of days.

In Ramzan when Muslims fast, all manner of food and water is prohibited.

Most people only drink water when they break their fast at Iftar. After that, they usually forget about it.

With temperatures rising past 30°C in Pakistan we need to consume as much water as we can get. Whenever you feel drowsy during your fast, chances are you’re dehydrated.

In this case, how do we stay hydrated in the holy month of Ramzan? We got you covered with these six tips:

1. Eat or Drink Yoghurt

Yoghurt is 85% water

Instead of drinking your water, you can also eat it in the form of yoghurt. One cup of yoghurt consists of 85% water.

If you’re not into eating yoghurt, you can always drink it instead. You’ll feel fuller and the water content will keep you hydrated (two birds, one stone).

2. Avoid Activities That Lead to Sweating

Sweating causes dehydration

When you sweat, you lose water. And since you’re fasting, you can’t drink more water. So, conserve the water your body already has.

An aggressive workout routine, and exposure to outside heat should be avoided till after Iftar. In fact, a workout after breaking your fast will help you digest a hearty Iftar.

3. Cut Caffeine

While caffeine does help give you a burst of energy at Sehri, it’ll dehydrate you for the rest of the day.

Caffeinated drinks like tea, coffee, and carbonated drinks take the fluids out of your body, resulting in frequent bathroom visits.

For that energy shot that caffeine gives you, we can probably substitute it for a natural alternative. Drink more water.

4. Eat Water

Fruit Salad/ Fruit Chaat

There are plenty of foods packed with fiber and water that keep you full and hydrated. This includes a range of fruits and vegetables.

Watermelons are your best friend. Veggies like cucumbers, lettuce, and tomatoes are also packed with fiber. The longer they stay in your digestive tract the longer they keep you hydrated.

5. No Sugar, Salt or Spice

Sugar, salt and spice are desiccants. They absorb water.

In case you didn’t know, sugar, salt and spice are desiccants. They absorb water. That’s why consuming something salty or spicy makes you thirsty.

To preserve the water you already have, avoid salty and spicy foods, as well as processed sugars.

6. Water on the Outside

Showers keep you hydrated

While you can’t add water to your insides while fasting, some water on the outside doesn’t hurt.
