Actress-cum-politician Urmila Matondkar opened up about rumors of her converting to Islam.<\/p>\n
News was going around that the Chhama Chhama<\/strong><\/em> actress had embraced Islam. Rumor has it that this occured after her nuptials to a Kashmiri model-turned-businessman Mohsin Akhtar Mir. Now the Congress politician has squashed those rumors.<\/p>\n Urmila gave a statement to clear the air. She said that these rumors were a cheap political ploy. While she is Hindu, the Ek Haseena Thi<\/strong><\/em> starlet affirmed love and respect for every religion.<\/p>\n \u201cEven if I had converted to Islam, I would have said it with as much pride.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Recently, Urmila made her debut as a politician by joining the Congress Party. The Khoobsurat<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 starlet affirmed that she was a Hindu but not in the traditional sense.<\/p>\n “I am a Hindu. That\u2019s the religion I have followed, but I believe in Hinduism in a wider sense, not the kind of Hinduism that\u2019s sold to us today. Even if I had converted to Islam, I would have said it with as much pride. However, it\u2019s none of anyone\u2019s business. I am not just talking about the secular fabric of the country because I am married to a Muslim. Contrary to that, because I always believed in it, I was open enough to marry a man of a different faith.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n She then made it a point to make it clear that her faith or conversion was none of anyone’s business. The actress added that she does not like to talk about her personal life.<\/p>\n \u201cI don\u2019t like to talk about my personal life. I was never on the radar. Her wedding was a very private affair. Even the ceremony was held at her Bandra residence.<\/p>\n The couple had a Hindu ceremony followed by a nikkah<\/em>.<\/p>\n \u201cWe kept it an exclusive wedding with just family and friends at the celebration. Since our families wanted the wedding to be a low-key affair. We mutually decided to keep it private. We seek your blessings on embarking this new journey of our lives.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Mohsin Akhtar Mir is almost ten years younger to Urmila. Mohsin has a brother and three sisters. His siblings are all very close to Urmila.<\/p>\n Urmila and Mohsin met at Manish Malhotra\u2019s niece Riddhi Malhotra\u2019s wedding in 2014.<\/p>\n According to the Mumbai Mirror, Mohsin was completely smitten by Urmila.
