Rumor has it there won’t be a reboot of cop drama Andhera Ujala<\/em><\/strong> after all. The classic PTV drama with cops won rave reviews when it aired, and people were looking forward to seeing more of the same.<\/p>\n

Word is that the original play writer Younis Javed sent a legal notice to EverReady Pictures for making a reboot without acquiring his permission (a Maula Jutt do-over?).<\/p>\n

However, EverReady Pictures is producing the purported Andhera Ujala\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>reboot and they know nothing of this phantom lawsuit.<\/p>\n

So what’s going on here?<\/p>\n

A New Drama or a Reboot?<\/h3>\n

Given Andhera Ujala\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is a PTV classic, the rights for the cop drama lie with the state broadcaster. Since EverReady Pictures already has PTV’s permission, we don’t have to worry about anyone crashing those plans.<\/p>\n

Earlier this year word got out that there will be a reboot to Pakistan Television\u2019s hit cop drama Andhera Ujala<\/em><\/strong>. With Danish Taimoor as the lead, people were really looking forward to it.<\/p>\n

To avoid any potential copyright issues, the drama has been named “Jaanbaaz'”<\/p>\n

Jaanbaaz cast also includes Hamza Firdous. Original cast members from Andhera Ujala <\/strong>like\u00a0Irfan Khoosat and Qavi Khan will return in new roles.<\/p>\n

A lot of Andhera Ujala <\/em><\/strong>fans were hoping this would be a sequel and carry on the legacy of the original series.<\/p>\n

The story-line will also deviate from the original. It’s said to have a completely different story with no connection to the previous series.<\/p>\n

We think that certain elements are using the Andhera Ujala\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>brand as a marketing ploy for Jaanbaaz. And that explains the controversies (and publicity) behind it<\/p>\n
