Bollywood’s wave of remakes is going strong. Even Karan Johar is working on the remake of a South Indian film Dear Comrade<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

While remakes are supposed to cut back on creativity, they still cost a fortune. KJo paid six crore Indian rupees for the rights of Dear Comrade.<\/p>\n

That is quite a high price for remake rights. In fact, this is the highest price ever paid for the remake rights of a film in\u00a0 Bollywood.<\/p>\n

An Expensive Venture<\/h3>\n

This remake is really costing a pretty penny. Previously it was speculated that KJo would be casting his Dhadak break-out stars Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khattar for the Dear Comrade<\/em><\/strong> reboot.<\/p>\n

Karan Johar later made it clear that the lead cast for the Hindi remake has not yet been finalized.<\/p>\n

About Dear Comrade<\/h3>\n

Normally reboots and remakes hit screens decades after the original. the original Dear Comrade<\/em><\/strong> is still in theaters.<\/p>\n

Karan Johar announced he would make a Hindi remake of the film even before its official release. The film hit theaters on July, 26th.<\/p>\n

Lead cast of South film, Dear Comrade<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The romantic drama Dear Comrade<\/strong><\/em> was released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada languages. The film earned 10.55 crores on the first two days and is still going strong at the box office.<\/p>\n

Dear Comrade<\/em><\/strong> cast superstar Vijay Deverakonda as the protagonist, student union leader Bobby, opposite actress Rashmika Mandanna, who plays Lily, a state-level cricketer.<\/p>\n

Other Hindi Remakes<\/h3>\n

While reboots of Bollywood classics is a relatively new trend, Hindi remakes of South films is old Bollywood practice.<\/p>\n

This year Arjun Reddy<\/em><\/strong>‘s remake Kabir Singh<\/em><\/strong> got Shahid Kapoor a pay bump. Meanwhile Temper<\/em><\/strong> was remade as Simmba,<\/em><\/strong> one of Ranveer Singh’s biggest blockbusters of 2018. Simmba<\/em><\/strong> was created as an installment in Rohit Shetty’s cop-verse.<\/p>\n

Muni 2: Kanchana<\/em><\/strong> is being remade as Laxmmi Bomb.\u00a0<\/em><\/strong> But the remake rights of all these movies cost a lot less than KJo’s Dear Comrade<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Word is that other producers, including Sajid Nadiadwala, Bhushan Kumar, Murad Khetani and Vijay Galani were also trying to buy the remake rights. So KJo made the highest bid, making the others back out.<\/p>\n

Karan Johar is also working on another romantic drama Good News<\/em><\/strong>. The film follows a story about surrogacy. Good News<\/em><\/strong> cast Akshay Kumar, Diljith Dosanjh, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Kiara Advani.<\/p>\n

The Kalank<\/em><\/strong> film-maker also has an action-thriller Drive<\/em><\/strong> lined up with Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandez.<\/p>\n

Then there’s also Brahmastra<\/strong> starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Amitabh Bachchan.<\/p>\n
