Pakistani actors, models, and films have utilizing their moment to shine through right now. After Cake<\/em><\/strong> representing Pakistan for the Oscars in 2019, now Mushk Kaleem and Alicia Khan are walking for Milan Fashion Week.<\/p>\n

Mushk Kaleem and Alicia Khan will grace the Milan Fashion Week ramp for Italian designer Stella Jean on September 21st. This is no small feat for Mushk and Alicia as the selection process was quite tough and extensive.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were all told to send our portfolios. It was a long process because we had to send in very detailed measurements. There is a certain standard size and height that has to be met for a model to be accepted into the fashion week. We also sent images from the ramp, fashion shoots, and videos. Then, finally, Alicia and I got selected.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

A Tough Process<\/h3>\n

Alicia Khan revealed that initially four models had been shortlisted from Pakistan. The extensive process and long wait scared the other two off, leaving Mushk and Alicia to be selected.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings were confusing for a while. I think the other two girls thought that nothing would work out and they backed out from MFW. Even I was not sure that I would end up going but I wanted to give it my best shot.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Pakistani Representation at Milan Fashion Week<\/h3>\n

Besides Pakistani models walking the ramp for MFW, Pakistan is really having a moment of representation.<\/p>\n

To add to that, Stella Jean’s collection will feature Pakistani handicraft. Earlier this year Haitian-Italian designer Stella Jean visited Pakistan to meet with government representatives and observe the crafts of Pakistan\u2019s northern region.<\/p>\n

Stella took her impression of handicraft techniques from Pakistan’s north and integrated them in her latest collection that will be showcased at MFW.<\/p>\n

Being the first ‘Black Italian designer,’ Stella Jean has always been big on ethnic fashion in ethical ways. She’s known for getting cultural designs right from the source rather than appropriating foreign cultures.<\/p>\n
