India\u2019s ruling Bharatia Janata Party (BJP) parent organization Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is meeting with global streaming platforms (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video) to censor certain content pertaining to Kashmir, Hinduism and the Indian army. That’s censorship taken to a whole new level, especially for a country that says its the world’s largest democracy.<\/p>\n

RSS held meetings with Amazon, Netflix, and other streaming platforms to bar:<\/p>\n

“content \u2018critical<\/em>\u2019 of the Indian standpoint on Kashmir or defamatory to Hindu symbols and the Indian Army.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Turns out six such meetings have already occurred over the past four months. While India loves churning out content vilifying Pakistan not to mention their propaganda via news, They want International streaming platforms to restrict ‘anti-national<\/em>‘ and ‘anti-Hindu<\/em>‘ content.<\/p>\n

According to The Economic Times<\/a> they urged the platforms to showcase content that ‘represents real Indian culture and ethos<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n

With the BJP in power why are they pressuring streaming giants for Indian censorship? Based on Indian censorship laws, the government can’t regulate digital content.<\/p>\n

Their laws don’t extend to that. That’s why they are now trying to pressure these online streaming platforms to remove content like they had with the BBC documentary \u2018India\u2019s Daughter<\/em><\/strong>\u2019.<\/p>\n

Now they’re really pushing for these platforms to remove content.<\/p>\n

Done it All Before<\/h3>\n

Censorship is nothing new for India. Pushing International platforms to censor anything remotely not positive about India is a whole new step. The only other thing they could do now is straight up create their own platforms like China and completely control content.<\/p>\n\n
