The cause? The song used Noor Jehan&#8217;s classic &#8216;<em><strong>Jadon Holi Jaye<\/strong>&#8216;<\/em>.\u00a0 And this is why it was not shared on YouTube and Facebook.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tribune.com.pk\/story\/2088450\/4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Express Tribune<\/a> reports that EMI Pakistan making the copyrights strike against Coke Studio. The label claims to own the copyrights of the Noor Jehan classic.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Operations Officer of EMI Pakistan, Zeeshan Chauhdry said;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe have\u00a0claimed copyrights over\u00a0Saiyyan\u00a0which is an\u00a0adaptation of our song\u00a0and uses a sample\u00a0from the original\u00a0to\u00a0add recall value to the new recording,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: center; letter-spacing: 5px; font-size: 16px; margin: 0;\">ALSO READ<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"font-size: 20px; font-weight: 600; font-family: Raleway ,sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/propakistani.pk\/lens\/maula-jutt-reboot-in-trouble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maula Jutt Reboot Faces Legal Troubles, May Not Get Released in Pakistan<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Last Thursday, even the BTS video of Coke Studio 12 song <strong><em>Saiyaan<\/em><\/strong> was taken off YouTube, hours after being posted on the streaming portal and Facebook. The BTS of <strong><em>Roshe<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Billo<\/em><\/strong> were also taken down. Zeeshan Chauhdry confirmed that EMI Pakistan&#8217;s complaint caused the BTS to be flagged down.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Since the song was infringing our copyrights, we requested YouTube to strike down the BTS of the song which is possibly why they [<em>Coke Studio<\/em>] did not upload the actual song on YouTube, to begin with.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>The Coke Studio Version<\/h3>\n<p>Coke Studio&#8217;s <strong><em>Saiyyan<\/em><\/strong> features the vocals of Rachel Viccaji and Shuja Haider. Earlier, the audio track was available on Facebook but not on YouTube. He even revealed that Coke Studio is working on obtaining rights to other songs that might also result in copyright infringement.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cWe will have to acquire the licensing for EMI songs to proceed further with their remaining songs on the season and for\u00a0<em>Saiyaan\u00a0<\/em>to be restored on all platforms,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>There&#8217;s more to this story<\/h3>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t mean the music producer is acknowledging that this is really a case of copyright infringement. He would rather take this to court.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cIf it was another song that EMI might have claimed rights to then I would have been happy to accept the claim through the proper channel. However, with\u00a0Saiyaan,\u00a0I\u2019m not sure if it falls under copyright infringement. Perhaps matters like this should be decided by a court of law.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Shuja Haider&#8217;s grandfather Wazir Hussain originally composed the Punjabi track <em><strong>Jadon Holi Jaye<\/strong><\/em>. They will show you proof of content-match and if we don\u2019t contest it, then YouTube pays them their share directly.
