In 1837, a Danish author H.C. Andersen wrote \u201cThe Emperor\u2019s New Clothes\u201d. It tells a story about an emperor who commissioned an invisible suit made for him. The weaver pretended to craft this \u2018invisible\u2019 creation and the emperor, too embarrassed to see the creation, pretended to admire the suit. Not only that, he went about showcasing that dress to his royal subjects who were aware of the fact that the emperor was completely naked. H.C. Andersen wrote this story as a cautionary tale of the idiocracy of society \u2013 However, centuries later, people still did not get the message.<\/p>\n

The Invisible Dress Still Exists!<\/h3>\n

Today, there’s a new fashion trend going around. It involves a dress that does not even exist! Yes, you heard it right.<\/p>\n

There is a fashion house called The Fabricant that specializes in creating digital outfits, and people are paying hefty prices for these non-existent dresses. How hefty you ask? Let\u2019s just say an American businessman spent $9,500 on a dress for his wife!<\/p>\n

These are purely digital creations. Nothing physical. The dress is Photoshopped in!<\/p>\n

Richard Ma, the husband who bought the \u2018dress\u2019 for his wife Mary Ren, had this to say:<\/p>\n

“It’s definitely very expensive, but it’s also like an investment. In 10 years\u2019 time, everybody will be ‘wearing’ digital fashion. It’s a unique memento. It’s a sign of the times.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Ms Ren has shared the image on her personal Facebook page, and via WeChat, but opted not to post it on a more public platform.<\/p>\n

As ludicrous as it sounds, the digital dresses are very popular and thousands of people are spending their hard earned money on these extravagant computer-generated dresses.<\/p>\n

Maybe They are Onto Something<\/h3>\n

According to Amber Jae-Slooten, a co-founder of The Fabricant, the concept of digital outfits was inspired by video games where players try different customizable looks for their in-game characters. The concept is not so far-fetched if people realize that gamers spend lots of money on making their in-game characters look more \u2018cool\u2019.<\/p>\n

Similarly, digital dress is a way for people to look perfect and glamorous on their social media posts. After all, in today\u2019s society people only dress up for pictures.<\/p>\n

“If you don’t like what you’re wearing, but you love where you are, you now have the ability to transition your wardrobe, and digitally enhance the photograph to make it look like you’re wearing the latest and greatest.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

No Need To Get Dressed Anymore<\/h3>\n

So, to put it simply, you can just go out anywhere in your boring sweatshirts and pajamas and have a digital artist sketch the latest fashion accessories and attire onto your body for picture posts.<\/p>\n

Digital dresses or photoshopped outfits, whatever you may call it but we all know that Pakistanis have taken this concept to the next level. Not only that, some of those creations have gotten (in)famous for creating ‘unique’ and inspiring outfit way before The Fabricant. Check out this stunning fashionista:<\/p>\n

Looks like digital dresses is the fashion of the future, and it wouldn\u2019t come as a surprise if HSY or Sana Safinaz head in that direction. Let\u2019s hope it doesn\u2019t happen anytime soon. However, if they do, then this guy should be the brand ambassador.<\/p>\n
