In this materialistic world, we are completely surrounded by bizarre news and events that take give a whole new meaning to the term ‘fandom.’ Just a few weeks ago, a ‘legendary banana’ was sold for $120,000 in Miami. And this week, the cape worn by the first Superman on the big screen, was sold for almost $200,000. Isn’t that insane?<\/p>\n

The prop from Christopher Reeve’s 1978 Superman <\/em><\/strong>was sold for $193,750 on Monday at Julien’s Auctions in Los Angeles. A collection of other rare Hollywood costumes also went up for auction alongside the heroic red and blue cape. Julien’s Auctions specializes in Hollywood collections and memorabilia.<\/p>\n

The auction house revealed that only six capes were used in total for the shooting of the film, which came out in 1978 and set a tremendous record for itself.<\/p>\n

The auction also sold costumes from the critically acclaimed Star Trek<\/strong><\/em> and Ghostbusters<\/strong> <\/em>franchise. The costumes from the Star Trek franchise include the uniform worn by Sir Patrick Stewart for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Leonard Nimoy\u2019s Romulan costume. Both of which, were sold for a whopping $28,000 and $20,000 respectively.<\/p>\n

Whereas from the Ghostbusters II, Dan Akroyd\u2019s jumpsuit was sold for $32,000.<\/p>\n

Another article, the pipe of Bibo Baggins, played by Ian Holm in the\u00a0Lord or the Rings<\/strong><\/em> was originally announced as the auction’s headline item. However, it was not sold at the last minute.<\/p>\n
