He-Man fans can rejoice as the iconic 80s cartoon returns with a brand new series! Mattel in collaboration with the online streaming service Netflix, is set to produce the reboot of the classic Masters of the Universe <\/strong>franchise.<\/p>\n

The series will be produced by Mattel Television with Adam Bonnett (Descendants<\/strong>), Christopher Keenan (Justice League<\/strong>, Batman Beyond<\/strong>), and Rob David (Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles<\/strong>) serving as executive producers. The series was developed for television by Rob David.<\/p>\n

Emmy-winning producer and designer Jeff Matsuda (The Batman<\/strong>, TMNT<\/strong>) and Susan Corbin (Voltron<\/strong>) will also be part of the production team. Bryan Q Miller (Arrow<\/strong>, Smallville<\/strong>, Sleepy<\/strong> Hollow<\/strong>) will serve as story editor on the series. Animation services are being provided by House of Cool and CGCG (Trollhunters<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

An 80s Classic<\/h3>\n

We all know about He-Man (Prince Adam) and the fiendish Skeletor, but it has been ages since the series first premiered on television. The show was an instant hit in the 80s but has not aged well over time. This mainly due to the campy nature of the show. People mostly know of He-Man as a meme. It will be interesting to see how Mattel and Netflix work to reboot the series that could appeal to the modern-day audience.<\/p>\n

However, there was a short-lived reboot of the property in 2002. Masters of the Universe vs the Snake Men\u00a0<\/strong>made a lukewarm debut, and was canceled soon.<\/p>\n

Fred Soulie, Mattel\u2019s Senior Vice President of Content Distribution and Business Development, said the new series will strive for a contemporary appeal that also satisfies old fans of the sword-and-sorcery exploits of characters such as Extendar, Man-At-Arms, Gwilor, Battle Cat and Roboto.<\/p>\n

\u201cMasters of the Universe is one of the most iconic global franchises of all time, with a 30-year history and a passionate fan base,\u201d Soulie said. \u201cThe entire team at Mattel is excited to introduce the world of He-Man to a new generation and, together with the talented team at Netflix, to reimagine the classic characters in a way that appeals to kids and families today, while also resonating with the fans who grew up with them.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Mattel\u2019s reboot of the classic franchise will also include a comic book series by DC Comics, an upcoming feature film, and a re-imagining of the 1980s toy line that hits retail shelves in Fall 2020.
