Students are the backbone of a country. They represent the masses, and are the torchbearers of our future. However, students are also the victims of society. When they try to speak against injustice, they are oppressed by the so-called law and their voices are buried.<\/p>\n

Such is the situation in India. Students all across the country are demanding their voices to be heard. They are battling the police every day and have been the victim of heedless violence.<\/p>\n

Their young blood and civilized minds have been underestimated numerous times, but yet again they stand on their feet and vanquish the tyrant.<\/p>\n

In the wake of destruction, Indian students are expressing their sentiments through the legendary Urdu poets.<\/p>\n

Recently, a visually impaired student of Jawaharlal Nehru University appeared on India’s NDTV channel after being tortured by Indian police. The student, expressed his views and in a show of defiance, sang the revolutionary poem Dastoor <\/strong><\/em>by Pakistani poet Habib Jalib.<\/p>\n

The video has already made several rounds on the the social media and whoever has watched, praised the young man’s courage on speaking up.<\/p>\n

In the video, the student is seen reciting the revolutionary couplets composed by Jalib.<\/p>\n

Main bhi khaaif nahein takhta-e-daar se,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Main bhi Mansoor hoon, keh do aghyaar se,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Kyun daraatey ho zindaan ki deevar se,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Zulm ki baat ko, <\/strong><\/em>Jehl ki raat ko,<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Main nahein maanta, <\/strong><\/em>Main nahein jaanta.<\/strong><\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Translation:<\/p>\n

I too am Mansoor, go and tell the enemy!<\/p>\n

With the prison wall why do you try to scare me?<\/p>\n

The tongue of oppression\u2026, The night of ignorance\u2026<\/p>\n

I shall not defer to! I shall not acknowledge!<\/p>\n

Jalib wrote the poem in the early 1960s during the regime of the former president Ayub Khan.<\/p>\n
