But thanks to social media, those stereotypes are being challenged. If you told me there was a hijabi ballerina out there, I couldn&#8217;t have believed you. But guess what, happy to be proven wrong!<\/p>\n<p>One Twitter user shared how one really exists, and now people are curious about who this hijabi ballerina is.\u00a0 Her name is Stephanie Kurlow and she asserts being the &#8216;first hijabi ballerina in the world&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>This woman is turning tables on stereotypes one <em>pirouette<\/em> at a time. This Russian-Australian ballerina is only a teenager. letter-spacing: 5px; font-size: 16px; margin: 0;\">ALSO READ<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a style=\"font-size: 20px; font-weight: 600; font-family: Raleway ,sans-serif;\" href=\"https:\/\/propakistani.pk\/lens\/naziyah-mahmood-is-setting-an-example-for-muslim-women-across-the-world-video\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Naziyah Mahmood Is Setting An Example for Muslim Women Across the World [Video]<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>During that rough patch when she wasn&#8217;t dancing and almost gave up ballet, she was inspired to push forward by African-American ballerina Misty Copeland, and the first hijabi Emirati weightlifter, Amna Al Haddad.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s when Stephanie Kurlow set up a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.launchgood.com\/project\/1st_muslim_hijabi_ballerina_in_the_world#\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">crowdfunding<\/a> page to help fund her private tuition. She went from struggling to afford the tuition to scoring a scholarship from Swedish sports brand <em>Bj\u00f6rn Borg<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BnQ2_2VABRn\/?utm_source=ig_embed<\/p>\n<p>The Australian resident even served as a muse for designer Tarese Klemens in 2018. In an interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/emirateswoman.com\/be-proud-of-your-identity-meet-the-hijabi-teen-changing-the-face-of-ballet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener noreferrer\">Emirates Woman<\/a> she said;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cSome girls feel more confident now to wear hijab in their everyday life, saying they aren\u2019t so afraid to wear it in public because of my story &#8230; They don\u2019t need to compromise their beliefs and their values just because of the current climate in the world.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>https:\/\/twitter.com\/cottoncandyloki\/status\/1220169467704958976<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Many people do not realize but much like racial identity, religious identity is met with prejudice. As a hijabi Muslim woman, that prejudice becomes more obvious.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, this ballerina has also faced trolls along the way.
