College administration of Postgraduate College Haripur has suspended a lecturer after he was seen in an ‘indecent’ TikTok video. He was suspended for being featured in a TikTok with a female student. The student has also been suspended.<\/p>\n
The short video features an English lecturer at Postgraduate College Haripur, Rafaqat Hussain with one of his students’ Zainab Ali. Rafaqat Hussain asserts that they did not violate any rules.<\/p>\n
While it is said the video has made several rounds on the internet the nature of the video is not known. The college principal, Dr. Muhammad Ishfaq states the video was ‘indecent’.<\/p>\n

Both the student and the lecturer have been suspended by college administration for ‘violating discipline’ after the clip went viral.<\/p>\n \u201cThey have been suspended for violating the college discipline by posting the indecent clip.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Following the committee\u2019s decision, the lecturer and student have been suspended until then. They are also prohibited from entering the college grounds. Oddly though, college discipline only applies to an institution’s premises unless unlawful conduct is proven.<\/p>\n Speaking of the legality of a situation, where does that place the college for regulating students’ and staff’s social media? Social media platforms are not only a means of self-expression but freedom of expression and speech as enshrined in the Constitution.<\/p>\n Zainab said it was ridiculous to suspend her for ‘violating discipline<\/em>‘ because the clip had nothing to do with the college.<\/p>\n ALSO READ<\/p>\n Karachi University Tells Students to Use Social Media ‘Ethically’<\/a><\/p>\n The issue was later referred to the director colleges and education secretary of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa for further action.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, both Rafaqat Hussain and Zainab Ali claimed that the TikTok was shared by ‘someone with ill-intent<\/em>‘. She told Express Tribune<\/a>;<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m an adult and mature enough to make my decisions. It\u2019s my right to choose who to spend my life with.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n The college administration also refused to issue her a certificate so that she may continue her studies elsewhere.
