Sad news for movie-goers as popular Swedish-born actor Max von Sydow has passed away. Young fans may remember Max as the \u2018Three-eyed Raven\u2019 from the mega-hit series Game of Thrones<\/strong>. The 90-year-old veteran actor died in France on Monday, according to his wife.<\/p>\n

The Swedish actor has worked in a lot of major Hollywood productions as well as several classic films by Ingmar Bergman in his long illustrious career.<\/p>\n

“It is with a broken heart and with infinite sadness that we have the extreme pain of announcing the departure of Max von Sydow” on Sunday, the statement sent to AFP said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

With chiseled features and piercing eyes, Man von Sydow became a very well-known actor in the industry \u2013 if not a household name \u2013 during an extraordinarily varied career. Most recently he appeared in epic blockbusters such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens<\/strong> and the hit television series Game of Thrones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Max\u2019s career began in the early 1950s on the theatre stages of Stockholm and then Malmo, where he met the man who would help forge his career \u2013 the Swedish director Ingmar Bergman. It was von Sydow\u2019s collaboration with Bergman in art-house films \u2013 now seen by many critics as all-time cinema classics \u2013 that fans will likely remember from his varied career.<\/p>\n

He is remembered for a lot of iconic scenes. Classic film enthusiasts will remember von Sydow as the knight who has a game of chess with Death on a lonely beach from the 1957 classic The Seventh Seal<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

He has also appeared on other Bergman films like the The Virgin Spring<\/strong>, Through a Glass Darkly<\/strong> as well as the English-language The Touch<\/strong> in which he starred alongside American actor Elliott Gould. One of his final roles was as a stern Russian admiral in Thomas Vinterberg\u2019s 2018 English-language film about the 2000 Kursk Russian submarine disaster.<\/p>\n
