Manmeet Kaur is a Pakistani journalist who recently became the first female Sikh to be nominated for an award by The Sikh Group<\/strong> in UK. The Sikh Group is a global organization that highlights the works of those who serve the people in their respective fields.<\/p>\n

Having lived in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, one of the things this journalist focused on was to highlight problems faced by the Sikh community living there. It’s because of this reason that she’s among the 100 people from around the globe who were nominated for this particular award.<\/p>\n

Manmeet Kaur has promoted interfaith harmony and the rights of minorities in Pakistan for a very long time. This is why she now stands among Indian singers Ammy Virk, Gaurav Randhawa, and the Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. All these renowned figures were also nominated for the award.<\/p>\n

Violence carried out by the Pakistani extremist groups has shifted from Shia and Christian minorities towards the Sikh community that have been living in the country. Although Sikhs were once considered the most protected of all the minority groups, the dynamics have changed.<\/p>\n

Sikhs have lived in Peshawar for almost 250 years, often working as healers, and owning pharmacies, clothing stores, and cosmetic stores. But, Radhesh Singh revealed that almost 70% of the total 30,000 population of Sikhs has migrated to other parts of the country or to India.<\/p>\n

Manmeet Kaur believes that through her nomination, other women will get inspired to work hard and serve humanity in any way they can. She also mentioned that if she wins the award, she plans on representing Pakistani women in the UK. Her plan is to showcase the strength and capabilities of women in this country.<\/p>\n
