Living in Italy<\/p>\n

Much like the rest of the world, people have ditched their homes in rural Italy to become city dwellers. However, one man is trying to bring people back by offering unbelievably cheap housing in a Coronavirus-free Italian small town.<\/p>\n

A small town in Italy, Cinquefrondi, situated in the southern region of Calabria, is offering homes for just up 1\u20ac (Rs186) to attract more residents.<\/p>\n

There’s a catch though, the deal comes with an annual insurance policy of \u20ac250 as a requirement to guarantee the completion of the renovation of the homes.<\/p>\n

Cinquefrondi Mayor Michele Conia is the man behind this scheme ‘Cinguefrondi Builds Beauty<\/a>‘. The fact that the Cinquefrondi community has not reported any cases of coronavirus is a huge plus.<\/p>\n

\u201cCinquefrondi overlooks the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts and is just 15 minutes from the beach. The village is rich with natural beauty.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Despite its natural beauty, and a short drive to the beach, the Corona-free small town is a ghost town, with few locals left. The houses are deteriorating, which explains the insurance policy.<\/p>\n

\u201cFinding new owners for the many abandoned houses we have is a key part of the Operation Beauty [mission] that I have launched to recover degraded, lost parts of town\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In fact, owners will be fined \u20ac20,000 if they do not complete the renovation within three years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re just asking for some kind of certainty once a new buyer commits to the project. The policy fee is very low and the cost of a restyle here is within \u20ac10,000 to \u20ac20,000, given the dwellings are cosy [and] tiny.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It doesn’t sound so easy now does it? At one point the Mayor himself left with his parents. According to CNN,<\/a> he actually grew up in Germany.<\/p>\n

\u201cI grew up in Germany where my parents had migrated, then I came back to save my land\u201d he added. Too many people have fled from here over the decades, leaving behind empty houses. We can\u2019t succumb to resignation.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

For those who thinking of moving to this little town, you can buy one of the 12 currently available homes. If the demand picks up so will the price. Not to mention, you have to be able to legally buy land in Italy, so tourists don’t really count.<\/p>\n
