It seems that people are not happy with the content that is being promoted on TV these days. Some people complaint that there is a glut of non-religious content.<\/p>\n

Keeping in mind these sentiments, the 159th meeting of PEMRA Authority was held in Islamabad. The recent meeting was arranged to decide what kind of content should be allowed in TV dramas.<\/p>\n

The meeting was held at PEMRA headquarters in Islamabad and included the Chairman of PEMRA Muhammad Saleem Baig as well as other members, Farah Azeem from Baluchistan, Faisal Sher Jaan and Safia Malik.<\/p>\n

Farah highlighted the content of TV dramas currently airing on various channels, which the other members agreed to. Collectively, the authority decided to draft a clear strategy for topics and content for future TV dramas.<\/p>\n

PEMRA hopes that its recommendations are implemented on all private TV channels.<\/p>\n

PEMRA instructed all TV channel owners to ensure respect and honor for all ethnicities in Pakistan. Private TV channels should create content that is in accordance with social, religious, societal moral values of the country.<\/p>\n

PEMRA also decided to link licensing issues for new channels with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in the future. Channels looking to renew their licenses must go through the strict KPIs on past content and performances.<\/p>\n

It is unclear what these new \u2018strategies\u2019 could mean for future TV dramas, other than the fact that producers and writers may not be allowed to tackle hard-hitting issues in their topics that PEMRA deems too controversial.<\/p>\n
