For Qawwali fans, Tajdar-e-Haram is an iconic tune. It’s one of those qawwalis that fans across South Asia hold in extremely high regard, and if we’re being honest, can get protective over as well.<\/p>\n
First performed by the Sabri Brothers in 1982, the revered Qawwali has seen multiple versions over the years, but each has faced its own criticism for not holding a candle to the original.<\/p>\n
This is of course with the exception of Amjad Sabri, son of Ghulam Farid Sabri who through the course of his career made it popular among the next generation of audiences, with the Qawalli being featured as a regular part of his performances.<\/p>\n
The other version that got a similar amount of attention was Atif Aslam’s 2015 version of the Qawwali which gained praise and criticism in equal parts. Qawwali fans are clearly hard to please.<\/p>\n
More recently a video of an unknown singer performing an excerpt from the Qawalli is circulating on social media. The video is of raw quality with the man singing with just a harmonium to support him. Despite gaining modest traction not much is known about the singer.” I have never heard anyone doing this much justice to this except for this guy!
