The wait is finally over as Marvel cast an unknown actress Iman Vellani to play ‘Ms. Marvel<\/em>‘ in the Disney Plus series. This is a milestone moment not just for the Pakistani community but for the entire Desi community.<\/p>\n

The first Pakistani-American to make it into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kumail Nanjiani tweeted he even got teary-eyed over the news.<\/p>\n

Growing up there weren’t a lot of role models on screen for brown girls, but comic series Ms. Marvel<\/em><\/strong> changed that. Now that diversity and inclusivity are catching on in Hollywood, the comic book series is being adapted into a live-action series for digital streaming platform Disney+.<\/p>\n

Funny thing is 18-year-old Iman Vellani is a Pakistani-Canadian. When news first emerged there was so much discussion surrounding who would play Kamala Khan, and now we have Iman Vellani.<\/p>\n

Deadline<\/a> reported that the young actress will play the Pakistani-American superhero, born in an immigrant family, raised in Jersey, and a total ‘Captain Marvel<\/em>‘ fangirl.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Pakistani-American writer, Bisha K. Ali is writing the show, and Pakistani director Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy is directing the series. Other directors include \u00a0Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, and Meera Menon.<\/p>\n

The New Wave program had young people write about the movies at TIFF. So she\u2019s not new to movies. Marvel reportedly went through a long casting process before finding Iman.<\/p>\n
