Just yesterday, a man decided to move the Sindh High Court over a petition for allowing anyone to carry a minute amount of hashish. The SHC responded by dismissing the petition which sought to decriminalize holding 10 grams of hashish on a person.<\/p>\n
Geo English reported that SHC Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar heard the petition on Friday. When Justice Mazhar commenced the hearing, he immediately questioned how such a petition even made it to court.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat kind of a petition have you brought to the court? Do you want everyone to start smoking chars?”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

\nThe petitioner Ghulam Asghar Saeein, responded to the remarks made in indignation by the judge, saying that he was just a ‘poor man’ who had filed the petition in the ‘public interest’.<\/p>\n
Ghulam presented his arguments about how cannabis derivatives like hashish are legal in many countries.<\/p>\n
\u201cSmoking hash is allowed in multiple countries,\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
In response to that argument, Justice Mazhar retorted that;<\/p>\n
\u201cIf you want to smoke hash then go to those countries. It is not allowed here.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
The top court judge questioned why such petitions are brought to the court. In response, the appellant asserted how legalizing cannabis and cannabis derivatives are a good source of revenue for a country.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will increase the country’s income and revenue.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
Justice Mazhar responded that the country does not want such revenue. Regarding his move not to legitimize cannabis or cannabis products, he said legitimate means of revenue already exist.<\/p>\n
\u201c[We] do not want such revenue, there are legitimate ways to increase income.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
