Pakistan’s sweetheart Mahira Khan has made it out to the list of ‘BBC’s 100 Women of 2020<\/em>‘. The actress is listed among the most inspiring and influential women<\/a> in the world this year.<\/p>\n

2020 has been one crazy roller coaster ride from COVID-19 to the global economy. BBC’s 100 Women of 2020 are all female change agents that have strived for positive change throughout the year.<\/p>\n

No wonder the scientist heading the Oxford University research into a coronavirus vaccine, Sarah Gilbert made the list. Additionally, a space has been left blank for all the women struggling for change that couldn’t land on the public radar.<\/p>\n

Pakistan’s very own Verna<\/em><\/strong> actress landed on the list for making an effort for change in Pakistan. From promoting progressive narratives through film to her work as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador.<\/p>\n

“Mahira Khan is no ordinary actress \u2013 she is outspoken against sexual violence, refuses to endorse skin-lightening creams and supports the fight against racism. She wants to tackle social issues in her native Pakistan by changing the narrative in films and on TV.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

As the Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mahira Khan has been ‘raising awareness about the plight of Afghan refugees in Pakistan’.<\/p>\n

She had also been working with fellow celebrity philanthropists like Shahzad Roy to highlight the need to educate children on the matter of child abuse as a preventative measure against the crime.<\/p>\n
