South Korea\u2019s National Assembly has passed a bill that gives accomplished artists, such as BTS a chance to defer their military enlistment until the age of 30.<\/p>\n

All\u00a0able-bodied South Korean men aged between 18 and 28 have to serve in the military for 21 months in order to protect the nation from the constant threat posed by neighboring North Korea.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

However, the Military Service Act allows certain privileges, such as complete exemption (in some cases) for high-profile classical musicians and athletes who won Olympic medals or a gold at the Asian Games.<\/p>\n

Considering the accomplishments of K-pop megastars BTS, the country has revised its law and now lets them postpone their military enlistment until they turn 30.<\/p>\n

The revised act states that artists who receive the recommendation of the Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism for enhancing the country’s image will be allowed to postpone their mandatory military service for two years.<\/p>\n

BTS has become a global phenomenon and among other achievements, they are the first K-pop idol group ever to receive the Order of Cultural Merit<\/a> in 2018.<\/p>\n

As the group’s eldest member, Kim Seok-jin turns 28 on December 4, he would have had to take a break from his career and enlist in the military soon after. But South Korea’s Parliament gave him an early gift as he can continue to perform with his group and set new records.<\/p>\n
