Bakhtawar Bhutto’s wedding shenanigans have finally come to an end. However, we still can’t get over just how immaculate each and every event was. From the wedding invites to the events’ menu, everything was being predicted. However, what caught everyone’s attention the most was her baraat<\/em> dress, by Sindhi designer, Wardha Saleem. And the fact that she did not opt for a top-notch couturier.<\/p>\n

Bakhtawar Bhutto wanted a Sindhi designer, and that’s exactly what she found. Speaking to Images<\/strong><\/a>, she revealed that the Bhutto family reached out to her.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The response has been overwhelming. Coming from a Sindhi background myself, it gave me great pride to be designing the outfit for the ‘daughter of Sindh’.<\/p>\n

They approached us. Bakhtawar has been following our work and liked our design sensibility. We had our first video call where she revealed her interest in wearing us for the main baraat event.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She also revealed that the couple had already decided on the colors of her dress. But everything else was up to Wardha Saleem.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

She trusted us and gave us a complete free hand to give the design our own interpretation and create a signature look.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p>\n

Describing the bridal dress and all of its glorious details, she said:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was a timeless ivory and gold hand-embroidered heirloom bridal; a classic long peshwaz<\/em> silhouette paired with a traditional sharara<\/em>, a main bridal dupatta and another ghoonghat<\/em> dupatta for the nikkah ceremony.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

And since Bakhtawar has proven her love for background stories and details, the designer took it further.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We opted for a hand-woven masuri<\/em> crinkle chiffon fabric for the shirt and dupatta and customized hand-woven organza for the sharara<\/em>. In an effort to amalgamate subcontinental heritage with the legacy of Sindh, geometric motifs particular to ajrak<\/em> were mixed in with Mughal-esque jaalis<\/em> and florals and fauna from Thar.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

She goes on to give other details about her dress. And how the colors of Benazir Bhutto’s necklace were also incorporated.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There were peacocks and house sparrows sitting in jharokas against Khairpur\u2019s banana trees and deer dancing along the main border. We also incorporated our signature chand-baala and lotus leather applique motifs in the outfit.<\/p>\n

Blue accents were added in the outfit and the custom-made clutch was created in sapphire blue once Bakhtawar confirmed that she would be wearing Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto\u2019s wedding sapphire necklace.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The designer saw Bakhtawar as a young woman who is modern yet attached to her roots.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We saw Bakhtawar as a young and sophisticated bride who valued her roots and was deeply committed to her family\u2019s traditions and legacy. At the same time, she wanted to make her own mark. Keeping this in mind, my design for her was classic and traditional and yet, young.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

 <\/p>\n

So how was the experience for Wardha Saleem? Well, here’s what she said:<\/p>\n

Bakhtawar was the dream bride that any designer would love to create for.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
