There’s a petition circulating online to change the Pakistani capitol’s name from Islamabad to Islamagood. Now we’re wondering is this a joke? Apparently not.<\/p>\n
At first, the Internet was legit confused as to whether this is real or not. This is not a drill, someone is actually campaigning for the name of Pakistan’s capital to be changed. Now you might ask, but why?<\/p>\n

The petition has been started by a Netizen named Ayham Abrar. This person wants to ‘change Islamabad\u2019s name to Islamagood’. The Bangladesh native’s rationale is that the name Islamabad is a compound word of sort comprising ‘Islama+bad’.<\/p>\n

\nThe name Islamabad is indeed a compound word but it actually comprises ‘Islam+abad’, in Urdu that would roughly translates to ‘where Islam dwells’. The actual meaning of the name is ‘city of Islam’. A suitable name for the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, with Pakistan itself meaning, ‘land of the pure’.<\/p>\n
Pakistan’s capital was named to reflect the state’s founding ideology. In fact, Pakistan is the 1st ideological state in the world, making it one of two such countries of its sort.<\/p>\n
Prior to that, the city was not a city but a collection of villages along the Margalla Hills. This included Shakar Parian, Saidpur, Bara Kahu, Golra, Malwar, Peer Sohawa, Dina Sayyedan, Nirala, etc. These are now names of key locations in the city. Remnants of Saidpur is right under the Margalla Hills is now a posh food area. The village still has its old Gurdwara and once connected to Rawalpindi through the famous ‘Saidpur Road’, which still exists in Rawalpindi.<\/p>\n
Ayham Abrar seems to have gotten his facts wrong. However, we appreciate the sentiment. Given the fact that Islam is the majority religion in Bangladesh, it’s nice to have a neighbor look out for you.<\/p>\n

Appreciation for sentiments aside Pakistani Netizens still want to clear the air on this misinformation, misunderstanding, or whatever we can call this.<\/p>\n
